H55, the specialist for drives and battery management systems used in electric aircraft based in Sion in the canton of Valais, has started work on the construction of its North American subsidiary and Canadian headquarters at Montreal Saint-Hubert Longueuil Airport. The municipality of Saint-Hubert is part of the city of Longueuil, which is located on the opposite bank of the Saint Lawrence River to Montreal in the province of Quebec. H55 Canada will work closely with existing customers such as Pratt & Whitney Canada, CAE and Harbor Air Seaplanes, further details of which can be found in a press release.
The new location will be equipped with a state-of the-art production line, with the aim of serving the company’s growing North American customer base. Manufacturing of battery packs is set to begin next year.
With ground having now been broken for this new complex that comprises a manufacturing facility and office space, “we are not just constructing a building; we are shaping the future of aviation”, as H55 Co-Founder and Executive Chairman, André Borschberg, explains in the press release. “With the support we are fortunate to have from the Governments of Quebec, Canada and Saint-Hubert, together with our shared commitment to clean aviation, we will soar to new heights, reducing our environmental footprint and ensuring cleaner skies for generations to come”, he concludes.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Transport and Quebec Lieutenant, underlined the region’s rich history in the aviation sector alongside a whole host of other distinguished dignitaries from the province, the Montreal region and the city of Longueuil. In their comments at the ceremony, they highlighted that investment in the electrification of aviation also represents a milestone on the journey towards creating an innovation hub.
