Typeface is the winner of this year’s FoodTech Award. The winning company was decided by the global brands Barilla and Lavazza. Founded in 2022, the San Francisco-based start-up will now have the opportunity to test its app for generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the creation of brand-appropriate content in partnership with the two companies, further details of which can be found in a press release. To date, Typeface has secured venture capital of 165 million US dollars from investors including Google Ventures and Microsoft’s M12 venture capital fund.
The competition, which was created together with the members of the Ticino Lifestyle Tech Competence Center (LTCC), is geared towards start-ups and scale-ups active in the B2B and B2B2C areas of shoppable marketing. The focus of this year’s call was on “creating a modern, satisfying and personalized omnichannel shopping experience”, as Luca Ravazzoni, Channel Team Senior Manager e-Commerce at the Barilla Group, explains in the press release.
In total, 70 applications were submitted, with 12 finalists ultimately invited to the UBS conference center in Lugano in the canton of Ticino. The jury was composed of top managers from Barilla and Lavazza alongside executives from member firms of the LTCC. These include, among others, Accenture, Microsoft, UBS, Università della Svizzera italiana (USI: University of Italian Switzerland) and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), as well as Epoch Capital.
“Thanks to the FoodTech Award, we were privileged to discover some exceptional ideas”, comments Andrea Bello, Innovation and Experience Senior Manager at the Lavazza Group. “We hope that the winners can join us on our mission to revolutionize the food and retail world”.
