Foreign Minister Heiko Maas reports about plans for a “European crisis prevention centre” in Berlin.
Brussels (dpa) – Germany has plans to build a centre to train civilian experts for crisis missions for the European Union (EU). The experts would then, on the scene, help to prevent crises from broadening into major conflicts, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said Monday evening on the periphery of an EU meeting in Brussels. The “European crisis prevention centre” would be based in Berlin, he said.
The Maas announcement is a part of the EU’s plans to clearly boost the mission-readiness of personnel in civilian crisis management efforts. The aim is to build up a pool of 200 police officers, lawyers and other experts who would be ready for a mission at 30 days’ notice.
