The Berlin & Beyond Film Festival, presented by the Goethe-Institut San Francisco, launches its 28th Season with the 8th edition of the Berlin & Beyond Autumn Showcase on November 7th at San Francisco’s Vogue Theatre and November 8th at Rialto Cinemas in El Cerrito.
The festival will open with the riveting classroom drama, The Teachers’ Lounge (Das Lehrerzimmer), Germany’s Academy Award® submission for Best International Feature. The Teachers’ Lounge won five German Film Awards, including Best Picture (Gold).
Tickets are Sold-Out/At-Rush: A rush line will form starting at 5:15 PM. If there are any available seats, we will start selling around 6:10 PM-6:20 PM.
Late in the 19th century, Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary – known as Sisi (Susanne Wolff) – is living in an aristocratic women-only commune in Greece. Countess Irma is sent there to be Sisi’s companion, and she is captivated by the eccentric and extravagant recluse. But the outside world is reaching out to break Sisi. And no matter how much Irma and Sisi resist, in the end they are left with only one fatal path that will bind the two women together forever.
