Easter wheels are another variation of an Easter bonfire. The Westphalian town of Lügde is famous for its Osterräder Lauf (Easter Wheel Run) and an incredible sight to see. Giant flaming wheels made of wood and straw are rolled down hills, leaving a blazing trail stretching for several hundred meters. This tradition harkens back 2,000 years ago to the fiery wheels that early Germans burned to symbolize the sun. These, too, marked the end of winter.
