Now the NBA’s fourth oldest player, Germany’s Dirk Nowitzki just turned 40 and is not expecting to retire anytime soon. Despite being currently out injured, he plans on returning to the court this year.
In a recently published article, Deutsche Welle looks back at the life of Germany’s most famous athlete – from being raised by his athletic parents (his mother played basketball for Germany, and his father was a professional handball player), to being first noticed by NBA scouts at the early age of 19, to finally the successes of his later career.
Going onto his 21st season with the NBA, Nowitzki is currently the sixth-highest all-time scorer in the NBA and he’s still got more than a few baskets left in him. Read Deutsche Welle’s tribute to this Wunderkind on their website.
