As the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced, the German Oscar® submission NEVER LOOK AWAY by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (Pergamon Film, Wiedemann & Berg Film, Beta Cinema) is nominated for the 91st Oscar® Academy Awards in the Foreign Language Film category.
In addition Caleb Deschanel received a nomination for NEVER LOOK AWAY in the category Cinematography.
Director Talal Derki can hope for an Oscar® as well. His documentary feature OF FATHERS AND SONS is nominated in the Documentary Feature category. The German producers Ansgar Frerich, Eva Kemme and Tobias N. Siebert are nominated together with Talal Derki. Distributed by Kino Lorber, the film was released in US cinemas on November 16, 2018.
The US-German co-production ISLE OF DOGS by Wes Anderson (US/DE, Babelsberg Film) is also nominated in two categories: Animated Feature and Original Score.
The Oscar® ceremony will be held on February 24, 2019 in Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.
In August 2018, NEVER LOOK AWAY was selected by an independent expert jury appointed by German Films as the German submission in the Foreign Language Film category.
