German-American Parade in Manhatten
German-American Friendship month and the German-American Steuben Parade will once again come to 5th Avenue in Manhattan on Saturday, September 19, 2015. The day will kick off with a Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, next will come the famous parade with floats, bands, and marchers from home and abroad, immediately followed by the annual Central Park Oktoberfest. The parade is sponsored by the German-American Committee of Greater New York, Inc., and is organized by the German-American Steuben Parade Committee in a concerted effort among many German-American organizations.
The first New York City parade lasted two hours, and included floats, bands, and marchers from the local community. Today’s parade has gone international by consistently including over twenty groups from overseas, flying to New York exclusively to attend the parade! Marchers from all over the country, as well as civic leaders, singers, dancers and social organizations enthusiastically participate each year!
This year, The German-American Steuben Parade Committee of NY is proud to announce that Klaus Wowereit has been appointed as Grand Marshall of the 58th annual German-American Steuben Parade! Klaus Wowereit is a German politician, member of the SPD (Social Democratic Party), and was the Governing Mayor of Berlin for 13 years from October 2001 to December 2014.
