Starting November 11, the Wende Museum is honored to present two compelling exhibitions that shine a spotlight on the resilience, culture, and history of those often excluded from official narratives.
Visions of Transcendence: Creating Space in East and West highlights the strength and artistry of incarcerated and unhoused individuals in both the socialist East and capitalist West. This showcase—while revealing the contrasts and parallels between East and West—emphasizes that, regardless of political divides, creativity prevails.
Ceija Stojka and Scenes of Roma Life offers a poignant exploration of Romani heritage and history. Experience the vibrant artwork of Austrian Romani icon, Ceija Stojka, whose pieces are a testament to her experiences surviving the Holocaust. Complementing her art in the exhibition are intimate photographs that immerse you in the daily life of the Roma and Sinti peoples in Cold War-era Eastern Europe.
The public opening will run from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 11. The inaugural tour will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by complimentary wine offered in the garden beginning at 1:30 p.m. and artist and curator remarks at 2 p.m.
Date: Starts on Saturday, November 12.30 PM – 2PM PST
Location: The Wende Museum, 10808 Culver Boulevard Culver City, CA 90230
