The all-stars of Baroque opera are back!
The English Concert, a globe-crossing period instrument orchestra led by conductor Harry Bicket, returns to Los Angeles for a single not-to-be-missed concert performance. This masterpiece of baroque opera is full of brazenly amoral characters doing dastardly deeds. As the men surrounding her plot to take the throne, the grieving queen Rodelinda tries to stay one step ahead of them all, while remaining faithful to the memory of her husband, presumed dead. (Key word: “presumed.“)
Don’t worry: Handel’s endlessly inventive score makes sense of it all. It’s one of his greatest operas—and he wrote dozens of them, so that’s saying something.
For fans of The Crown or House of the Dragon, we’ve got your next fix of royal drama. Join at LA Opera next week for Handel’s Rodelinda in concert. With King Bertarido presumed dead in battle, Queen Rodelinda is forced to fight for survival in a court of usurpers and traitors. Even worse: her husband’s killer now wants the queen for himself. Conductor Harry Bicket leads The English Concert in this Baroque classic, played on genuine period instruments.
Rodelinda is onstage for one night only on November 21, with tickets starting at just $17. Act now to experience Handel’s deliciously dramatic battle royale.
