The traveling exhibition “Democracy Will Win!” is currently on display at the Charles Deering Memorial Library at Northwestern University, Chicago, presented in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Chicago. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit the website. The exhibition traces Thomas Mann’s political biography from monarchist to ardent advocate of democracy, linking Mann’s personal activism with current debates in the U.S. as well as Germany about the “crisis” of democracy and ideas for its renewal and strengthening. The exhibition “Democracy Will Win!” aims to encourage visitors to engage with the topics of ‘democracy’ on two levels. First, as a place of debate about the political Thomas Mann, his dedication to democracy as well as his at times problematic understanding of it. And Second, as a place for debate on today’s democracy in German and the U.S., and the “crises” of democracy discussed in media and society. The traveling exhibition was created by the Thomas Mann House and is currently being displiayed in cooperation with the German Department at the Charles Deering Memorial Library of Northwestern University, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Chicago. |
