The traditional German “welcoming of spring” event, or Maifest, will take place this Saturday, April 28 at the Schuetzen Park Historic Site in west Davenport (700 Waverly Road).
From 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., visitors to the Park will hear the Guttenberg German band perform live ethnic music throughout the day. The Eulenspiegle Puppet Theater will also perform at 12:30 p.m.. Visitors to the event will also have an opportunity to try the Maitanz, or May dance, which includes colorful ribbons and a central May pole. Homemade German food will be served from the Jens Lorenzen pavilion. Entrance into the Park is free. The event is sponsored by the German-American Clubs of the Quad Cities.
