In case you happen to visit Germany during the Easter holidays, you might want to include one of the following four cities into your itinerary in order to participate in some extraordinary events that are unique for its region. You might even discover the Easter Bunny’s home. The Lower Saxony town of Ostereistedt, literally “Easter egg town,” has made a tradition out of its name: legend has it that an Easter Bunny called “Hanni Hase” lives here. Thousands of children write letters to him with their wishes every year, and much like the letters to Santa that children send at Christmas, post office officials step in and send responses. And these days, a giant stuffed version of Hanni visits town and hides egg-filled baskets for the local kids.
