Hailed by Gramophone magazine as “one of the finest among the astonishing gallery of young virtuoso cellists,” German-Canadian cellist Johannes Moser unites with internationally acclaimed Austrian pianist Till Fellner on Tuesday, February 26, 8pm, at Samueli Theater. Together, they will perform Beethoven’s iconic Op. 102 sonatas, written in 1815, during which time the composer, ailing and overcome by all sorts of difficulties, experienced a period of literal and figurative silence as his deafness became overwhelmingly profound. Over the past few years, Fellner has dedicated himself to the 32 piano sonatas of Beethoven, having recently performed the Beethoven cycle from 2008 to 2010 in New York, Washington, Tokyo, London, Paris, and Vienna to which he received rave reviews. Also on the program are works from nearly a century later including Stravinsky’s charming Suite Italienne, Debussy’s melodic Sonata for Cello and Piano, and Webern’s gorgeous Three Little Pieces. Date: Tuesday, February 26, 2019 Time: 8:00PM Location: Samueli Theater, 615 Town Center Dr, Costa Mesa, CA 92626 For more information and tickets please click here |
