German car rental firm Sixt says it will buy about 100,000 electric cars from Chinese manufacturer BYD in the coming years.
A first order placed to BYD will comprise several thousand vehicles, some of which will already be available this year, the German rental firm announced on Tuesday.
Initially, the electric vehicles will be offered to customers in Germany, France, the Netherlands and Britain.
Another 100,000 are to follow in several stages, until 2028.
BYD is one of the largest electric carmakers in the world. The company is currently entering the German market and also sees the deal as an opportunity to demonstrate its vehicles to potential customers.
BYD’s goal is to “inspire” Sixt customers with its electric vehicle offering, BYD executive Michael Shu said.
