When Fasching Saturday arrives, it is that time again: Up to 200 courageous participants charge down the 1,000 m hillside in the Pfronten district of Kappel on traditional wooden horn sledges called “Schalenggen.”
In times gone by, these horn sledges were used to transport wood and hay from the mountains into the valley. Today, this hard work of days gone by has become a spectacle for locals and holidaymakers alike. Each year, visitors can enjoy a bright mixture of hullabaloo, involuntary tumbles, hospitality, music and moderation. And on the 31st edition of the largest sledge racing in the Allgäu, spectacular scenes and exciting competitions are guaranteed.
Another speciality of the racing: Every participant is a winner – whether they come first or last! The only condition is passing the finish line. One pilot and part of the sledge suffices. Participate yourself on February 10, 2018!
