On October 3, 2020, Germany celebrates 30 years since its reunification following the peaceful revolution in East Germany in 1989 that led to the opening of the Berlin Wall.
Even 30 years after “die Wende” (turning point, here synonym for turning point in German history), a study conducted by the German TV station ARD found that 55% of former East German citizens still feel rather like East Germans than Germans while people born in West Germany feel predominantly as Germans (75%) and only 16% of them see themselves as West Germans in the first place.
